First, use my tools to remove voice search ... then:

    adb shell pm uninstall com.google.android.voicesearch

    then install :)

Make sure you reboot after doing the above.

I believe that is due to one XML file still having data in it.

Hopefully someone remembers the uninstall command you can run that removes that entry so you can download from market.

    You can also try:

    adb shell pm uninstall com.google.android.voicesearch

Is that a script we run from terminal after typing "su?" or something else? If it is a script, neither work for me.

I had no problems at all. Installed from market and it just updated the original voice search.

I got it installed (running 4.6). I deleted the original voicesearch.apk (not sure if that was necessary but I wasn't worried about deleting it) then rebooted phone, searched market for "Voice search" (don't search for "Google Voice Search" or strangely it doesn't come up) and installed the app. Made it my new default for the search button long-press. Works well!

I think this is what you're referring to -- in terminal, use VoiceSearch.apk and com.google.android.voicesearch instead of the ChromeToPhone items:

    su
    sysrw
    busybox rm system/app/ChromeToPhone.apk
    cd system/bin
    sh pm uninstall com.google.android.apps.chrometophone
    cd..
    cd..
    sysro
