I am using Handbrake to convert my videos, but I am not able to make the picture any wider than 640w x 272h. Is this because the original video is that size and you can't make it any larger than the original? If I use those settings, will I not be taking advantage of the Droid's screen?
Most of the .AVI's I convert are that size, but when played on the DROID they are full screen, crisp and amazing.

Convert a video using those settings and put it on the device. It will blow you away.

Let me know how that works out for you!

Noticed that the audio and video become just barely unsynced when playing on the droid. Still annoying though. It doesn't happen when playing on the PC.
Used Handbrake, MP4, H.264, 480 height for video. Audio is AAC, 48Hz, 128kbps.
Has anyone run into this?

^ Usually with the audio/video not being in sync is caused from the file being too large or the bitrate too high. When I first started encoding with HandBrake, I was starting at 1500/1600 for video. My sync would be perfect, then go out of sync by a second or so. Then I bumped it down to 1200 and everything is perfectly in sync. Also keep in mind, if you are receiving texts or e-mails while watching a movie...that will slightly affect the sync as well.

Here is my final settings.

My video specs are as follows:

All done with HandBrake. Created my own Motorola Droid preset.

Picture Settings
MP4
480 (width)
Crop: Automatic

Video Settings
MPEG-4 (FFmpeg)
Avg Bitrate (kbps): 1200

Audio Settings
Automatic/Stereo/160

I tried to get them in H264 format, but all I get is video with no audio. I would love to do them with the "encode 2 pass" but it takes a long time.

BTW....does iPod 5G Support have to be checked to do H264?

Also, if you want the movie to take up the whole screen in HandBrake....do 854 Width and 480 Height. I tested it on the first chapter of Black Hawk Down and it takes up the full Droid screen. It is pretty cool, but at the same time I am not used to watching a movie like that, prefer the bars like they were meant to be.

I'll just put in the height and let it figure out the width, otherwise it may cut off or compress the video. Even at 1200kbps I still get unsycning. Is no one having this issue, really?
Even 1000kbps

^Above 1200 kbps...I get unsyncing, but at 1200 and lower...none for me.

Looks like if I just let a video play at normal speed there is no unsyncing. Everything I said before was based on skipping around in the video. It's still strange that it happens but I suppose its not so bad if it doesn't do it when played normally. Thanks for the advice.

Oh My!!!
I got the video to work perfectly. Full screen, audio, sharp as a TACK!
But. The thumbnail for this movie in "Gallery" is from a previous "test" that went bad and I had deleted earlier. So the movie that I have loaded now is "Up" the kids animation. Guess what the thumbnail is, that I have no idea how to change.....a porn shot.:icon_ banana:
Hey, it was just curiosity. (and curiosity DID get the cat) Thank goodness the quality is so bad, you can't even tell what it is. So how will I explain that to my kid who always wants my phone to play with.
That Gallery is $#!@% We need a player that loads nice with titles and manual library inclusion. I hate it when those damn programs take every darn picture and video and puts it in the library. I've got a folder in "Gallery" of icons and I have no idea what program they go to or how they got into Gallery. But it is clutter I don't want to have to see every time I want to view pictures.

That is weird. Anytime I delete a movie, whether it's a sample or full version...the thumbnail disappears. No idea why yours is sticking.

I have tried saving it to my computer and my droid and most times I do not see a file. What am I doing wrong?

I've seen most people use Handbrake and select the PSP option. I haven't tried this, as I use linux and avidemux.
