icons "align to grid"

I tried searching and didn't find anything on this.

You know how on windows you can right click the desktop and check or uncheck "align to grid" for the icons? Unchecking would allow you to place icons as close to other icons and wherever you want..rather than placing and having it snap to a place on the "grid" or whatever..

Is there a way to do this on the droid? I like to arrange my icons/widgets in order to see my background and I hate how they have to be a certain distance from eachother.

The only way to do this is use the moreicons app or the sweeterhome preview 2 home replacement. here's a screenshot of my sweeterhome.
