I've seen people do this, but I have no idea how.

Lets say for my browser icon, I want this to be it, dancedroid, instead of the globe. Well how do I get rid of the gray bubble underneath that says "browser". I just want a picture for the icon, not the text underneath.

I just purchased Folder Organizer from the market for the very same reason. It's very easy to change icon pics for the desktop (the factory picture still shows in the app draw) and rename apps on the desk top.
Also, LauncherPro (home launcher replacement) lets you hide all the application names on the desk top. One of VERY many awesome abilities of that app.

Thanks! I didn't know launcherPro had that option, just found it. Thanks again.

Not a problem! Like I said, that's one one many features of LP. I've been using it for a while now and absolutely love it!!
