The Android Ice Cream Sandwich SDK & Source Code has been released way ahead of time. You can download it here:

    Android SDK | Android Developers

Source Code: Downloading the Source Tree | Android Open Source

Now, the release of the Ice Cream Sandwich source code isn't directly significant from a typical user's perspective; this is raw code, after all, and not something you could just install onto your phone as-is.

    The real significance is two-fold:

First, this means the Ice Cream Sandwich software is now considered complete. That's obviously huge.

Second, this means manufacturers and third-party ROM developers can start working on prepping Ice Cream Sandwich to run on all sorts of Android phones and tablets. The source code was the one piece of puzzle they were missing up till now.

The next big question is when Google's ICS flagship Galaxy Nexus phone will arrive. With the Ice Cream Sandwich OS officially out in the wild, one would imagine its launch is right around the corner; numerous leaks and rumors, in fact, suggest the phone
could appear as early as this Friday Google has an Android-related event scheduled for Wednesday, so it's possible we could learn more then.

They said a stable Gingerbread rom would never happen on the D1, but it did ten fold! Now I'm curious if these amazing devs can bring ICS to the good ol D1, (although I'm not counting on it, but it would be awesome)!

SDK? The SDK was released when they announced Ice Cream Sandwich in October. The source code was released today. You don't even link to the correct page.

Do you guys even know what you are talking about?

Of course, someone had to come in here and make a big deal out of nothing. We all know what they meant, just didn't feel the need to state the obvious!!!

Obviously we all know what they meant, but they not only "slipped up" by calling it the wrong thing, they linked to the wrong page. This website constantly has stories and posts that are blatantly wrong, and the only reason I even follow this website on Twitter is so that I can save people from the misinformation.

You guys need to get your act together.

Thank you Mortalys... And who might you be? Chuck Norris?

Can you give me an example of an false story? Every one I've seen is pretty spot on. Shadez isn't perfect, he still is the bearer of good news though! ;) Don't expect everyone to be perfect, we're not gods on DF! ;-)
We're not fans of flamers here either! :D

Damn, I was all about to "like" your post and agree with your concern, but then you had to push the "constantly" and "blatantly wrong" buttons. :( You might think about getting married -- it'll help you practice the rules of constructive criticism. I know it's prevented my wife from killing me on more than one occasion!

Let's not get bent out of shape and take it out in each other. It was our mistake. It's still good news to those that like custom roms.

This is awesome! I can't wait to have ICS on my D2. Oh, and for my two cents, it's completely and utterly ok if they got something wrong. They admitted to it, apologized, and then gave the correct link for the correct download. There is a difference between helping by pointing that mistake out and just completely defaming their name and saying how crappy the site is. This site is not crappy by any means. It's very helpful to a lot of people. If a mistake is made, it will be corrected promptly by polite people who expect that same politeness from us. If this site doesn't suit your needs, please leave. If all you can do is criticize, we do not need your input and will be better off without it. Now, BACK TO ICE CREAM SANDWICH!!!! :icon_ banana::icon_ lala::icon_ banana::icon_ lala::icon_ banana:
