I want to root because I see you can do a lot more with your phone and make it a bit faster. Is there someone who can give me step by step instructions?

Go to Droid life, get Droid mod, follow along with video.

    Search is your friend.

Check out the hacking section, especially the stickies. They are loaded with info. I'm going too soon as well I think and advice from and probly all other members. Read read read read practice (in notepad or other document) read read read. Print out the process and read it highlight stuff that you think you will have problems with then read some more. I had a member pm me and it took him about 2 months or so before befelt comfortable with it. Me will probably be about the same time. And remember to back up often, just like in a pc. There are a lot of ppl that will help you here.

There are two ways to do it. the easy way is to go to droidmod.org and download the dmupdater 1.0. it will root; install recovery; then install the ROM.
You could also do it yourself. Big Lou has an awesome guide for noons. Check out rootyourdroid.info . Good luck.
    Remember to read a lot

    I used a process posted by Matth3W(http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ha...ng-only-sprecovery-terminal-emulator-zip.html).

It requires you to enter commands that the other process have automated.

I like control so it depends how you work. The outcome will be the same.

    Enjoy!

yep, I've been reading about it for months and once I took the leap I did use DMUpdater and everything worked great and I did it with my PC going down step by step which is like 35 of them or so. Works great even though I had a few scares and once it rebooted the final time I thought I bricked it because I got the M logo and then it just went blank and unresponsive so be patient. Then get setCPU from the market and you can overclock it.
