lol, I've been rather slow with flashing on my Droid... it was a major problem on my last WM phone and I would flash at least twice a week, usually more. When the group I was in started developing our last ROM is was flashing daily for the better part of a month (sometimes twice a day).... so I'm a bit burnt out now. I flash Pete's (B. Beast) ROM whenever he posts a new version but that's about it. Hoping he doesn't release another one until 2.1...

On WM we had a program called SASHIMI which made flashing a BREEZE because it would go through and completely restore all your setting and personal info (registries, data, ring-tones, EVERYTHING, even install programs) so it was painless to flash so often... I've been able to use the .update method thus far with Pete's ROMs but even that can be a pain at times compared to just hitting one button on SASHIMI.

When you have to manually install and configure 5 times a day after each flash 6 emails , Sipdroid , widgets , custom skins etc. the excitement goes away .

^+ Exactly why I haven't stared flashing like crazy.... I REALLY wish the guy that wrote SASHIMI would come of to the Droid platform. That saved SO MUCH freakin time.

That's because we haven't really been 'flashing' a 'new' ROM... at this early stage in development most flashes are actually just minor updates to system images/files and are not overwriting the entire file system (i.e. replacing the entire ROM). Thus the reason the 'update method' is called such. Even the first 2.1 ROMs that are out allow for an 'update' from 2.0.1 and not an entire wipe. But if you choose to (or in some cases are required) to do a complete 'wipe' of your system than you'll start from scratch just like flashing a WM ROM.

This is also why so many people are experiencing problems with some ROMs with others are running them flawlessly. Whenever you 'update' an OS there are always a few things here and there that are left behind and/or not correctly edited which can cause problems. That even occurred on WM phones where flashing always overwrote the entire file system (people called it a 'bad flash') so it's only reasonable that the 'update' method would yield an even higher failure rate.
