Time line of events of my Droid 1
This spring I forced 2.1 update on my phone prior to OTA.
    Worked great until
yesterday when i got the Froyo update as a OTA. I chose to install the OTA.
after the phone powered down and rebooted it got stuck on the first screen you see once you power your phone on. "M" The white Motorola logo.
I then pulled my SD card and deleted the update.zip. Still no luck it still gets stuck at "M" screen.
I next tried to force 2.2, by applying it to SD card and installing it. No luck at all...still stuck at "M" screen.
I then tried a factory wipe with SD card removed and i am still stuck at the "M" screen. Does anyone have a clue to what is happening. I'm really afraid I will have to run it through the washing machine and make a claim.

So you can still get into recovery by holding Power and X

When you tried to "Force 2.2" where did you get that update.zip file from?

I'll see if I can get this moved to the hacking help section.

If your device is not taking the update (this has happened to many other people) you could always take it back to VZW and let them know, it is there update after all, no need for a swim bath for your device, they will take care of the problem.

If you are like me and have had the same Droid since 11/6 and just wouldn't feel the same with another one, then you could install RSD Lite here http://www.droidforums.net/forum/rescue-squad-guides/39254-sbf-root-unroot.html which would gain you root access of your Droid and then do the manual update again via SPRecovery,

FYI, if you can boot into recovery your phone is far from bricked

If you don't feel comfortable doing this, Verizon should have no problems giving you a warranty replacement phone
