I went back to 2.0.1 and I unrooted my droid, just so theirs no problems with the OTA this month. I installed the original 2.0.1 from Sholes. I no longer have the SPRecovery and I used the terminal to delete the Superuser.apk. But.....I still have that X symbol upon booting my device. I guess thats the boot image? But I figured since the original 2.0.1 update.zip from sholes removed the nandroid recovery, it would remove the boot image? And restore back to the default DROID image with the red eye? How do I restore this back to normal now that i do not have superuser? Or will i have to root again?

I think formating the /system folder wipes out the bootanimation

Ok...yeah that seems likely that that would work...but...how exactly can I do that? Will that wipe everything in the /system directory?

Couple of different ways to do it

From the nandroid recovery image you can choose format system or from adb shell
    format SYSTEM:
