For anyone out there that roots their devices to customize them, this is probably the best news you can get.

I just watched a vid of the Sensation. If an unlocked version dropped on Verizon tomorrow, I'd be all over it. Immediately.

I have been sticking with Motorola phones because I didn't like the Eris, but now I am really considering jumping ship to HTC. Motorola take notice, or you're going to lose a lot of customers to HTC. Just my 2 cents! ;)

I hope they make it retroactive, so that the Thunderbolt would get unlocked via OTA update.

This is a great move for HTC. I wonder how this is going to affect the devices already out like the thunderbolts etc. Hopefully they just put the keys in one of the next few OTA's. I'm going to have a long relationship with HTC.

I'm done with Motorola, unless they unlock bootloader. Next device is going to be from HTC otherwise. This may be the best news to the dev community in a long time.

Like mentioned, this is great news from HTC. Just remember, we have to see what happens with the carriers. Hard to say if they're just going to capitulate on this. Going to be interesting, for sure. If this is completely successful and HTC comes out with no bootloaders and the dual cores dropping, they can snag a huge share of the market.

Don't jump quite yet. It's not clarified if this is retroactive or just in all models coming out from now on yet. This is happening fast, so lets see where the details come down.

As jk said hold off on inc2 I am sure current models that are locked will stay locked. I am sure they will have unlockable bootloaders so its a choice. I would not be surprised if upon unlocked it alerts the carrier.

My emails to their marketing & public relations departments were quite disparaging so I feel I have to.

Like JK I'm not jumping for joy just yet. I'm wondering if everything will be made right. Bootloader, nand, radio, the whole shpeal.

Our missing link in this is the carriers and how they will handle this. They are known for spoiling the party. Let's hold tight and see what they are going to do. I would love for them to just sit back and let the unlocked bootloaders flow, but I don't think it's going to be this easy.
