HTC officially released a new set of widgets into the Android Marketplace yesterday designed exclusively for HTC Eris and HTC Hero. The free set includes Tip Calculator, Dice, Today in History, and Battery. This comes a day after HTC demanded that Beautiful Widgets developer, LevelUp Studio remove its Sense-like widgets from the Android marketplace.

Battery Version 0.95
Tap the widget to see more battery information. this widget is only
for htc hero & droid eris. quietly brilliant

Dice Version 0.90
Tap the dice first, and then simply shake (do not throw!) your phone
to "throw" the dice.

Tip Calculator Version 0.90
You can adjust the tip percentage and the number of people in the
group before calculating.

Today in History Version 0.96
In this widget, learn about significant events and famous people who
were born or who died on this day in history. Tap a link to view the
corresponding article on Wikipedia.

I hate HTC.

The way they act epitomizes being arrogant and selfish.

They are using an open platform and they are attempting to "close" it. I think they would gain more customer good will by embracing the openness and release these free to all.

Not to mention: Don't sue the people/customers ;)

What they're doing is perfectly within their legal rights. Android is much more open than the iPhone, but everyone is interpret using an open source operating system as creating a 100% open product. When the manufacturers limit something, it kills off the feel good sentiment, but in the end, it's business.

they are trying to force me to buy an htc instead of a moto?
That's stupid, I'm sorry. But come one let's be friendly and just sell them. Heck, they could sell them for $5 to ppl who don't have htc devices, but it's just kind of lame. However the market has tons of good apps for my moto so I don't really care.

Hmmm, these widgets don't seem all that interesting anyway. There are tons of alternatives the Market that work great. Dice?? That's just like the lighter app for the iPhone- totally useless.
