Stand by, something's not work. Let me sort this out. I'll report back when I have an answer.
Nah I might wait to unlock and root as well... I would prefer to have the entire stock ROM image for Galaxy Nexus LTE to flash back to stock before going to the dark side Just in case...
Work your magic Yoda!!
OP updated with a slight tweak. I have personally confirmed that this works. Enjoy.
I just got an update pushed to the phone. Did you update yours also before rooting/unlocking? or did you do it out of the box?
I declined the update until I unlocked and rooted.
The drivers don't install for me. I downloaded the one you gave and it worked, but when I plug my phone it, the last step or whatever doesn't work, it can't find my drivers or something?
Do you know for sure that you will get the update after rooting?
Hold up, superuser is not working.
The boot.img that give you temporary access to root the phone doesn't get past the Google logo. I accepted the OTA update first since it wouldn't make a call without the update.
Better have some answers after I get back from chipotle!

I installed the update before doing this.. but everything seems to be going fine right now. I just unlocked it, now it's rebooting from the root method.
