How to undo 'default by' options?

Hi this is my first experience using a smartphone.

Under contacts, i was exploring the options when under the 'messages' section where i clicked 'tap to compose' when i accidentally click whatsapp and set default by. Aft that, i am unable to compose texts on the same screen, not even the keyboard comes out! how do i undo it?

Go: menu » settings » applications » manage applications » click app » click "clear defaults"
