How should I go about tethering? I never tried it before and I know there are ways to do it without giving big red more money. I have to stay over at my work Saturday night and wanna use my laptop.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi <-- that allows you to wifi tether, if you want to go that route. There are others, like Elixir that allow you to achieve this as well.

If you don't want to use wifi (or can't), something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mstream.easytether_beta or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pn.helper will allow you to tether via USB. There may be better options for non-rooted users with USB tethering, but I am not aware of them.

If you are rooted there are other options.
