I know some of you are wondering if it's possible to tether with your android phone. The answer to this question is, YES, it is possible.

To do it just follow these steps.
    1. Go to this website
PdaNet -- USB Tether/Bluetooth DUN for Android
    2. Download software (make sure you unplug your phone from the computer first)
    3. Follow directions on screen
    4. Make sure you turn on pdanet on the phone everytime you want to use it and connect using the icon on the bottom right of your windows computer.
    5. Enjoy your free tethering

If you want to do more than just go to websites after the trial expires, you will need to pay a one time fee of $29 to get the full version of the software.

This is not meant for the application thread. I have moved it to the droid hacks section.

I know it is an application, but i meant, this is not a topic of conversation meant for the application thread. We do not support such applications, so it got moved to the hacks section. Seeing as it skirts, not having the ability natively (and actually having to pay for it), whether or not it's an application, we put it in the section that has our disclaimers on the top, whether you read them or not is your choice.

Think again...It's a way around VZW policy on tethering (IMHO illegal)....So it's a Hack.

But in all, it is an APPLICATION that you install from the market. Hacks section should be reserved for actual hacks... at least in my opinion...

"illegal" no. A way to get yourself a huge data fee, yes. I know someone who used this all the time and got hosed by vzw for data overages. I use it occasionally, but I don't use it enough to feel that I need to pay the tethering fee.

30 days, one time fee. I wouldn't over use this though, as they will hammer you when it gets suspicious.

Call and ask VZW...if it's not illegal they should allow you to do this...Right?

Ugh.... Illegal means criminal. Thus it isn't illegal. It is a violation of the TOC. Not that complicated.

Here's the deal. Most phones have the option to be used as a modem to dial ANY phone number. On most networks if you dial #777 you connect to the "tethering" service. vzw charges for this and limits to 5Gb. Data directly to and from the phone is truly unltd.

On Android phones one has the option of having the phone share its unltd data via application. You can even buy one to make your phone into a wifi hotspot for under 10 bucks.

You are completely wrong. Read the fine print of your data service agreement. Jesus. "Unlimited" data is for your phone only and is truly not unlimited. If you really want to argue this i'd like to see you go into a vzw location and explain it this way. if this was true a tethering option wouldn't be on the way from vzw. I have owned verizon smartphones with vzw data plans since 2002. I know the ropes

Hammer you how? The data package on my phone doesn't say unlimited* like the tethering package. Just plain Unlimited. No where in my contract does it limit my data use. :icon_ banana:

yes it does. Read the fine print. I'm 100% positive you havent because you think this. I don't care what the title of your plan says. The data usage is limited because if you exceed 5gb more than once, they will charge the hell out of you. I suggest you go read the fine print and come back with your magical contract.

Verizon smartphone plans do NOT allow tethering sans tethering plan.
