Is there a quick way to root the og droid, like z4root works for the D2G, or do I have to follow the process in the sticky?

I'm working on the same problem right now. z4root isn't working on my OG Droid. I think I'm going to have to do it the hard way.

I've seen people use Super one click, but I dont know how well that works. I used Motocache1's method. Good luck.

I used superoneclick to give temporary root to flash sprecovery in rom manager in conjunction with motocache1s update.zip to disable what he refers to as FRS.

Will running that sbf erase all the apps on the phone as well? I just want it rooted, not sbf'd.

I'm also on the FRG83G build number, will I still be after using motocaches method?

No and yes. All the sbf does is write a custom recovery to the phone to allow running of the update zip.

Hey anytime! If you want my method is near flawless as well. Install all a855 drivers for Windows, root with SuperOneClick (this will give temp root access to a custom recovery), reboot phone, transfer his update.zip, install rom manager, flash ClockWorkMod then choose install zip from sd card choosing his zip file, make sure anything that is labeled "wipe" is unchecked and if you wish you can keep "backup" option checked then say ok. That will give you root and disable what's referred to as FRS. That way if you ever want to remove root access all you have to do is a nandroid restore and unroot through Superoneclick.

Hacking and rooting should be discussed here. Thread moved.

+1 for this method. also its not the"hard way". It took me less than five minutes to root my wifes phone using it. and it works every time without problems. Ontop off all that it gives you a better understanding of what us happening to your phone so if you do have any problems in thur future you are better able to fix them yourself.

I used motocache1's method. It was much easier than I thought considering how long the post was.

I like how he structured it also. Teaches you how to apply a zip for a custom rom and how to get into recovery mode. Gives you a basic ins/outs of flashing and how to sbf if u ever need to go back to comepletly stock.

Universal Androot works on the OG Droid but only after SBFing back to 2.1.

    Rooted: RZRecovery
    ROM: ChevyNo1 SS v5.4

Sorry, I should clarify that point and thank you for pointing out my mistake. 1Click root methods will not work on the 2 most recent Moto Droid updates, which are the FRG83D and FRG83G I believe. Again thank you for correcting that! :)
