I like, for instance, K9 Mail and Handcent more than the default apps that ship with Android phones. Yet every email, and every text, still shows up in both apps. How do I remove/disable the default apps?

I looked back a half-dozen or so pages in each area of this forum that seemed a good place to find an answer, yet didn't find what I was looking for.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

To remove any default apps you need to root. You can disable notifications for the default messaging app in the settings. You can probably do the same for mail, but I have never tried it.

Yes, disable notifications for both stock apps in their settings. As for removing apps, you do not want to remove the stock text app, it is used by 3rd party apps.
