This is something I've been wonderin'...
I want my phones ringtone to go off right when it receives a call. Currently it's also on vibrate and it'll vibrate like 2 or 3 times before I hear the ringtone come on. Does anyone has any idea of how to make this happen???

There's a d delay built into VZW's ROM. If you install other ROMs they may not have compiled that in. I use SmokedGlass6.0.

I'm using ultimate droid v9, I don't see why they would build that into the rom. It doesn't make any sense to want a phone not to ring the first 15 sec. someone is calling you, good thing I have it on vibrate too

The official reason is it gives you time to silence it before the ringer starts.

    Code:
    adb pull /system/build.prop build.prop

    Comment out ro.telephony.call_ring.delay=3000

    Code:
    #ro.telephony.call_ring.delay=3000

Push it back to the phone.

    Code:
    adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
    sync
    reboot

If you get a permission denied error, you may need to remount /system as read-write and copy it to your sd card, then /system.

    Has worked for me, ymmv.

Sweet, that slightly annoyed me too.

Not to bash or anything but I dont see why people love the ADB shell, I would much rather do the stuff on my droid itself, but then again if your eyesight is bad or you dont like the keyboard I could see where you would prefer ADB.

    One reason:

    Permissions.

ADB doesn't rape your permissions like root explorer and other apps like that do half the time.

This prolly sounds like a noob question... but what is adb, and where can I get it to fix this?

Android Debug Bridge. It's a software program that allows installing, removing, and controlling your Droid over the USB connection.

It is part of the google Software Development Kit (SDK). When you download that from Android SDK | Android Developers and install it, the "adb" command allows you to work on your droid.

There are four major commands I've seen people use on this forum (and there are many more).

adb shell -- start a shell process (terminal with command line access) on the droid
adb install -- install an android package (.APK) onto the droid
adb pull -- make a file on the droid pull over onto your PC
adb push -- put the PC file onto the droid

    Also popular but rarely mentioned:
adb remount -- make your /SYSTEM partition mounted with write permissions
adb reboot -- reboot your droid

    Cheers,

    E

My favorite reason.. COPY and PASTE! with ADB, you can easily copy commands from the forums and paste them into the shell window, eliminating untold spelling errors and hair pulling exercises.

That too. Thats why many of us put the commands in code brackets so that folks know what exactly to copy and paste. It still requires some knowledge to setup adb correctly, of course.

Yea that is useful, Im assuming the adb shell doesnt act the same as the windows command shell since you cant copy and paste in the windows shell. Thats why I love the linux (bash) shell, theres so much you can do with it.

Ill check out ADB sometime soon.

I havent seen anything about it but is it possible to use the adb shell in linux (other than using wine) because I dont use windows that often.

Yeah, it works fine in Linux. Its a pain to setup though. Wine is not needed.
