I am constantly having to re-set the screen brightness to maximize battery life. I don't have it set to auto adjust but it frequently does so anyway. What gives?

Have you tried "extended control" widget? It has several toggles that allow you to change the brightness, WIFI, bluetooth, GPS etc. When picking the brightness toggle pick it and tap it again this opens settings choose custom. I've never found the settings to change.

Good luck.

FYI: there's also a brightness control app (not a clunky widget that may or may not gel with a particular theme or 'look' to your phone), which can also be added to your dock.

One click to bring it up, and a simple slider to set brightness.

I notice this same issue, but usually after running certain apps. I believe its these apps that cause the change in screen brightness. At least for me.

What was the name of the app someone pointed to in the screenshot above?

By keeping screen brightness low it helps in increasing battery life. Because due to this phone takes less power for operating. Go to menu and then into settings, and go into display settings and then reduce the brightness.
