How to Install 2.1 and 2.2: The Easy Way

6/12/10 Update: Made the guide way easier.
6/6/10 Update: Fixed a few things and added how to install 2.2 Froyo.
6/2/10 Update: Guide updated with new bugless beast ESE81v1.1.
5/11/10 Update: Guide updated with bugless beast ESE81v1. This uses the official droid 2.1 update.
3/21/10 Update: Guide updated with bugless beast 0.9. This update uses update.zip so its easier to install.
3/15/10 Update: Guide updated to use Adamz's Smoked Glass 6.0 2.1 ESE53 ROM. This ROM is a lot easier to install and a lot more customizable.
3/12/10 Update: Guide updated to Pete's 0.8 ROM.
3/10/10 Update: Guide updated if you are having errors during install.
3/8/10 Update: Updated guide to Pete's 0.7 ROM and changed the guide to make it easier to install the ROM.
3/7/10 Update: Switched ROM to Pete's Bugless Beast ESE53 2.1 ROM. This 2.1 is built for the droid so its a lot faster and more stable.
2/21/10 Update: DMUpdater link put into guide.
2/19/10 Update: Sholes.info site went down and they made a new site called droidmod.org. They are working on upgrading to DMUpdater which is the new updater. I will post the link when they upload it. Read this: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-development/24052-explanation-what-happened-sholes-info.html. Guide updated for 0.3 beta of alldroid ROM.

2/14/10 Update: Updated to sholesmod updater link to version 0.8. This version should be a little easier to use.
2/12/10 Update: Added what the ROM has in it.
2/11/10 Update: Fixed a few things in the guide and updated the sholesmod updater link.
2/9/10 Update: Alldroid Beta 0.2b Out and guide updated. The 2.1 ROM should run smoother and shouldn't be as much bugs. Keyboard backlight and LED fully work now. With this update you have to wipe your phone even if you have the alldroid beta 0.1 ROM.

Can a Mod please sticky this. The other one isn't maintained and I will keep this maintained.
This guide will help you install Pete's 2.1 ESE81 Bugless Beast v1.1(Top of guide) ROM or Pete's 2.2 Froyo ROM.(Bottom of guide)
First you need root. Here is how to root:
    Download this:
    DMUpdater
You can skip steps 1-7 if you are already rooted.

    1. Copy the dmupdater-11.apk to your root of you sd card.
    2. Now head to the Android Market and download ASTRO File Manager.
    3. On your Droid go into Settings-Applications and make sure that Unknown Sources is checked. This makes it so you can install dmupdater.
    4. Exit out of settings and open up ASTRO. Go to your sdcard. It should automatically be on /sdcard when you open it up. Find dmupdater and click on it. Hit Open App Manager. Then hit install.
    5. Open up DroidMod Updater. It should say "Your phone is not rooted." Just click Root my phone. Now it should download the update-root.zip file and root your phone.
    6. Now you should have superuser permissions app in your app drawer. Looks like a ninja or #.
    7. Now open up DMUpdater again and it should say it wants you to flash the recovery. Just click OK on everything. If you want the DroidMod 1.0 ROM(Optional), then go into ROM menu and select it.[IMG]

Not sure but I would imagine it would be buggy or probably a boot loop.

do you know if SetCPU works on this rom? Also keyboard backlight not working correctly. Known issue?

Just noticed battery icon not working as well. And is there a way to not have a new window open everytime you open the browser app?

SetCPU works just make sure you select auto detect not droid when you first start it up. Keyboard I think still doesn't fully work. Thats just a issue with 2.1 that won't be fixed till its official. Not sure what wrong with the battery and browser as I didn't make this ROM. If you want some help try here. AllDroid - View topic - [Rom] AllDroid Community Beta 0.1 Download fixed!

ive been running this ROM since alpha. It's my favorite 2.1 rom to date. But yes, all 2.1 roms have keyboard issues, since they were ported from a non-physical keyboard phone (N1). The live wallpapers are also buggy, which kinda sucks, but it is what it is. These are things they have been working on, but it's a process. Also, yes setCPU works and should have actually been included, also included is the evilboot8 800mhz OC kernel

The Setcpu widget showed 800mHz but I couldn't get it to open, and I did use autodetect, been running sholes rom at 800 for a while. Overall the ROM looks nice, had to give up on it for now. Too buggy for me. I will wait for a rooted official 2.1 ROM.
