How to get into DroidX recovery?

I can't seem to be able to access the recovery. I bought the donated version of the liberty too box and did everything from the tool box. I am also running v.8. I tried using droid x bootstrap and rom manager and flashing the clorkwork recovery from rom manager.
Everytime I try to get into

It happens sometimes, make sure you turn off USB debugging, and do a battery pull when the phone is fully booted.

I figured it out when I did some googling, it was because usb debugging was on.
