If you are using another text messaging app and you keep receiving multiple notifications, follow these steps to stop android's notifications so then only your app sends you the notification.
1.Open up the android messaging app
2. Go to menu, then click on settings.
3. Scroll down and find the option labeled "Notifications", and uncheck the box.
