My Droid 2 often gets really hot (over 100 degrees) just sitting on my desk and drains the battery a lot. It shows 2-3 bars of service and under battery management it shows cell stand by and idle chewing up a good chunck of the battery, even with the screen off.

I know about airplane mode but Id still like to be connected. Would turing the wifi on eliminate the need for cell stand by to search for a good signal?
