Sometimes, you know too well that the kids are going to want to have a play or learn with some toddler apps. What will you do?

We don't have phones or tablets for the kids in the family. They get toys, coloring books, etc.

My stepson has my old Nexus 7 tablet. Once in awhile, my wife or I will hand him our phone to play a game while we're out and about if we forgot to bring his tablet. We've been lucky that he's stayed in whatever game he was playing or swapped between a few different games. Previously, we used the Kid Mode app (I think the one by Zoodles). That locks them into the Kid Mode app and they can only access apps and games that you set up in the settings. It also prevents the back button from exiting the Kid Mode interface. It's pretty slick. We haven't really felt the need for anything like that now that he's a bit older though.

Kids mode on the primary phones. Spare devices loaded with games with wifi off. My dad bought a couple of the $50 Fires. They work great for family get togethers when it's too dark for outside play.

Spare device hand me downs save my phones battery.

Oh yeah, I created his own Google account for the hand-me-downs tablet when I got my new one, so his stuff doesn't clog up either of our accounts. His grandparents bought him Google Play gift cards to buy games & stuff, but he doesn't get the password. My wife or I make all purchases for him so we can approve them.

His play store & Google music are set to children accounts. No mature content.

My boys have their own Google accounts on their own devices. I monitor what they view and download. I have a kid profile on my Tablet S2 that they play on sometimes that doesn't allow them to get the my stuff.
