I thought I was lucky with my Bionic untill today. I got a double whammy, my phone just shut off and would not turn back on till I did a battery pull then I had it on and found that I was missing an app.

Im sure all this will be adressed in a software update, Im new to android and was wondering how soon updates come out on new phones ?

That's happened to many of us. I deleted the stock home app even though I use ADW Ex, and I couldn't get to my home app. I had to go backdoor and send myself the apk to install home again.

I spoke to a Verizon rep today who said that an update is coming out in early to mid November '11.

How can that be anything but a guess?

Unfortunately, I have found that MOST of the information that I have gotten from Verizon over the last 21 years that I've been a customer has almost ALWAYS been a guess. It seems that we have more current info on these forums sometimes than they do.

I knew for over a month that the Bionic for example was being released on Sept 8th, 2011, but each person from Verizon that I talked to had no idea when it was being released. Thank God for the internet and the forums!! Before these tools, it was tough to get info.

Isn't that always the case. And then you go in there and try to tell them what is fact and their like "Um... I'm the Verizon guy, you're stupid". haha But occasionally you will find some that are aware (probably members of our forum) and those are the ones you want to keep around.

I agree that the Verizon sales people would only be making a guess. So for you long time android users my question is
How soon do they typically make updates for new phones ? I know that apple seems to do updates weekly lol mainly to
try to keep it locked down.

I would think 3-5 months, but that is just from slight observation.

I got the November date from a csr as well. I asked if that was a best guess on his part or what he was told. He insisted it was what they were told internally via a memo.
