I get one whenever I feel the need, generally that is every two years. I am a fairly cheap person, so I don't like spending a lot of money foolishly. If I get to the point where I don't like the phone, or it isn't functioning up to my wants/needs, and/or something comes out that really sells me as "I need this device" that sometimes will make me want to upgrade early. But with contracts now being 2 years, I am probably going to stick with my devices for 2 years now.

Every two years unless there's nothing out that I like. I have only upgraded early once and that was from the HTC Eris to the Thunderbolt.

Somewhere on this amazing ball of creation!
Well... I've only had 3 phones in my lifetime. ;) Some LG flip phone, my DX and now Nexus. The DX I had for about a year and a half. (I got it when it came out!) So, so far only 1 notable swap at a year and a half! :)

Until I break it, so about once every 6 months.
3 phones to water damage, 2 phones to being run over (crushed), and my last one to a fire.

So cases don't really help me. : /

Back when I was on feature phones it was around every year. Since going to smart phones it's pretty close to a full 2.

Haha MAJOR bad luck.

I usually make it about a year, although I've had my DX since day one, I want to and will get a GNex. As soon as my kids let me save up some cash! ;)
