im at stock rom(system version 2.3.340) right now, just rooted is the only thing i did.

I want to install a custom but before I do i would like to make a backup of what i have now so incase something is wrong i can always go back to default stock rom.

How can i make a back/safe point of where i am right now?

1. Download Droid X bootstrap.
2. Click the first option once downloaded.
3. Click "OK" when it says "Success"
3. Click the second option.
4. Wait until it boots up into ClockWork.
5. Scroll down using the Volume Rockers to "Backup/Restore"
6. Select "backup" using the camera button.
7. It will start, and could take around 5-10 minutes.
8. Select Reboot System Now, after it finishes.

Don't make too many backups, since they take quite a bit of space.

is clockwork included with bootstrap?

so in the future if i wanna "SBF" back to stock from a custom rom i just do the same steps as listed except restore instead of back up?

Yes.
But SBF is something different. SBF will return you to out of the box state. This will return you to how it was when you backed it up.

And DO NOT go to a froyo backup when on GB, or vise versa.
