I found a download for the Milestone Gallery that I would like to try with my Droid.

within the .zip file is 2 files tor the gallery:
    com.motorla.aui.jar
    MediaGallery.apk

I tried installing the .apk using Astro, but it failed to install.

Can someone tell me if the .jar is required here? Also.. what commands would I need to use to get this working??

any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

place the .zip on your SD card and rename it to .apk then just click on it and open with App Manager and click install. Most people rename the .apk file to .zip because many boards will not allow a .apk attachment to posts and so that the internal files can be seen on a computer.

the MediaGallery.apk needs to go in system/app, right? That means you need to move that to the /system/app folder using a root file explorer (like Root Explorer) or you'd need to use adb shell. And you'd need to mount the system as r/w to move the file there, and you'd also need to chmod it 644. Not sure where the jar file needs to go - I'd read the instructions from the site where you got it.

Here, I searched google for "mediagallery.apk com.motorla.aui.jar" for you and found all sorts of install instructions:
[release] Milestone multitouch Gallery for 2.0.1 v1.0 - Motorola Development Community

Are you rooted? It sounds like you need to root and/or use root explorer
