My phone is rooted now I just want it to stay that way when I update and before I update I want to make sure I am doing it right so I won't lose my free wifi tethering before I go on vacation

If you root using ROTA893, it will survive the update to 901 or 902, has root and forever root built in.

No that is not the one, ROTA893 is from Realbbb. Run a google search for it and it will come right up.

Do I need to do a factory reset or anything else before I use the above root

Similar question.

I did what evile84 was going to do. I was already rooted and I ran ROTA893 over my rooted phone. Minus the reset.

I checked mount_ext3.sh

and it only added

chmod 4755 /system/bin/su

but other methods say it needs to add all three lines. Can anyone on 902 confirm what the last line on their mount_ext3.sh file is? (located /system/bin/)

chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk

You shouldn't have to factory reset...

I was on stock rooted .893 (I was forever rooted via the below method). After the .902 update I still have root. Hope this helps.

RootExplorer Method

go to /system/bin/
open in text editor - mount_ext3.sh
add the following lines to the very bottom

chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 755 /system/app/Superuser.apk

I used the ROTA893 and mine says: chmod 4755 /system/bin/su is the only line it added.

I flashed back to 893 from 901, ran ROTA893 then took 902 OTA and have root.

@op you and I are in the same situation so we'll know soon.
