I have done some searching and cannot find an answer. I have been pulling all of my system APK files off and altering the graphics in every one. After pushing them back, the market app (Vending.apk) seems to work, but it then seems to make a duplicate app in the data/app folder called something like com.android.vending.apk

When I pull that APK, edit it, and resign it, and push it back to data, it seems to work, but then I have some issues where the market constantly crashes. Does anyone know a good solid fix for theming the market vending app so that it doesn't mess up.

(On a side note, I have also had bad issues with some others from the market. After editing PNG's, erasing META folder, resigning, and installing... some work perfectly, others crash on startup, or even dont work at all.)

....waiting on an answer for this too...it is because the Market has pushed out an update for the native "Market" app. I just wish I could block that update, the original native 2.1 version workd just fine, if not better then the updated version.

Yea, annoying because I tried just editing the update in data/app and it got rid of my Market, then I tried resigning it and it worked but not fully.. kept FC...

I seemed to have found a fix for this.

Download the attached "clean" copy of the Market app (vending.apk) remove the ".zip" after downloading.

Put your Droid in "Airplane Mode"(keeps the Market from trying to redownload an update), unistall the Market update if it is in Manage Applications.

Push/Move the downloaded Vending.apk to the system/app folder , be sure to double check permissions after pushing/moving.

Reboot phone, go out of Airplane mode.

You can now retheme Vending.apk if you like.

So far in 2 days this has worked perfectly and no pesky downloaed Market app update undoing the Theme.

Oh nice man! I love your theming, looks really slick. I like how the clock is framed off. I am still working on mine, but its a deep blue and black theme. I like everything being consistent... The background is a photo I took and put in place of the water leaf live wallpaper, and I just erased the leafs so its just liquid. Can't wait to get home and try the vending.apk thing!

is editing the live water/leaf wallpaper that simple? replacing the water image in the apk with an image of your choice? great, one more thing to tinker with... the live apks! :)

thanks to 928's guidance, I'm never going to have a life again as I can constantly customize the look of this wonderful piece of machinery, inside and out...

Hahaha. Its a little tricky for some reason actually. The leafs you can change to whatever you want, I choose 420 and then went to nothing so its just liquid. However the background is odd. You have to put in the photo you want, rotate it 180 so its upside down, and then flip it horizontal and then squish the top and bottom in a bunch so its "flattened" looking - for some reason THEN it will turn out rightside up and good looking. Takes some time to get right...

You probably know, in the framework-res you can find the notifications pull-down background and make it full screen, then drop in a photo, or transparent design... makes the notification bar 10x cooler...

Thank you so much!!! Been looking for this fix. I had taken the Incredible status bar files and moved them into my droid framework.apk and market kept crashing. I tried out what you said and now market works great!!!

    Thanks so much!

Now I just need to find the actual status bar file so I can turn the default gray one to black. Though I had the right file but guess not. Do you know the name of the status bar png file? I got all other icons working but for status bar.

Hey MotaBoy, the status bars and pull down menu are in the framework-res.apk file in hdpi folder. I dont know the name off hand, however if you have it in alphabetical order all of the notification bar graphics are together maybe about 9/10ths to the bottom.

statusbar_background.9.png for the actual status bar

    status_bar_background.png for the dropdown background

PS: I have been trying this morning to get this market APK themed, I even tried the method on the first page exactly how its written and it showed I had no market installed. Ahhg. Have to go in to work now, but hopefully I can get this sorted out soon. I want to get my theme out there to the public to use but the whole vending update is hard to deal with...

I am now shouting HELLLLP to all themers. How do you theme the market now that its updated in the data/app folder. Theming and re-signing the com.android.vending.apk works fine until you try to download somehting, it FC... HELP!!!

you might ask 928droid about it - i know he had a workaround where basically you went back to the original market app after the main theme was applied, then rethemed it, but i haven't done it myself yet so i can't really help with the details

It turns out the MetaMorph was breaking the Market app.

First you need to uninstall the "new market update" (from Manage applications) located in data/app You then need to restore an original Vending.apk to system/app ( pretty sure I posted a fresh copy in one my theme threads) and now with the new MetaMorph you can theme it without breaking it. No signing etc, needed.
