Hello, first post. I forgot my lock screen code on my phone! I don't want to reset my phone, as I don't want to lose my text messages. What can I do?

I'm reasonably computer literate, and although I use a Mac, I do have access to a pc.

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum pxsoar! Are you using a pin or a pattern? Depending on which device you have, when you set up your lock screen it will also make you set up a backup in case you forget one or the other. I'm thinking this isn't the case in your situation?
You're only real option at this point would be to take it to your carrier and have them unlock it for you. You'll need your ID of course so as to prove its your device.
Good luck & let us know how you make out.

Where would a backup be located?

i just called t-mobile, and they said there is no way they can bypass the code, that it's stored on the phone itself. There's got to be a hack of some sort, right/

I read somewhere that you place a particular zip file on the micro-sd card of the phone, and then go into recovery mode, and open that file. Supposedly that allows one to bypass the lock code. I downloaded that file, tried it, but got an error.

Normally, (I repeat, NORMALLY), that should not happen on a phone if you have any type of data connection or active WiFi. At some point it would ask you for your Google account info and allow you to unlock it that way.

Agreed. If you input the wrong code so many times in a row, it should ask for your Google account & password.

Unless you have a device that's set to auto-wipe after so many failed attempts. I believe that was an option on the Note 4 that I disabled.

No, there is no option to recover using my google account. The window just doesn't appear. I'm wondering whether I can remotely install an app from Google Play on my computer to the phone, something that would allow me to reset the code? Again, I do not want to reset the device! Thanks...

Something doesn't sound quite right. Go here and see if it sees y7our phone will allow you to do a wipe. Android Device Manager I don't think there is an app you can install from the Store that would help.

It sounds as if the phone is somehow not functioning properly beyond the password problem.

I agree with these guys. There is no app that will help in this situation.
The link leeshor provided should work. I'm not sure why Tmobile told you that, any carrier should be able to reset your pin or password lock as long as you can verify its your phone.

Yes, I called t-mobile and was directed to Device Manager. It locates the phone on a map, but there is no lock button, just a "Setup Lock and Erase." When I click that, it asks if I want to "Send Setup Notification." I click "Send," but nothing happens. I expect that it's supposed to send some trigger to the phone to enable the lock feature, but a "Lock" button never appears. It still says "Setup Lock and Erase." In doing a google search, I found other people trying to bypass the Lock Screen on their device, and, like me, an option to reset using the google account never appears.

I called on two occasions, and once was even sent to tech support. They weren't aware of any other way than what've we've tried here. I need some sort of hack.
