So Im going with the stock (rooted) FRG22D from pete. What do i have to modify to block ads in apps and the browser without using a third party app? is it as easy as copying a file/folder from bugless into my current system data?

the file you are wanting to modify is /system/etc/hosts , so a 3rd party app is necessary to mount system as R/W and then copy(edit) your hosts file. you can download known hostblock files from the web, or you can make your own on your pc/mac/linux box and you want to route all known ad/malware/etc sites to your localhost or 127.0.0.1 and use ADB to push the file to your system after you've remounted R/W

makes sense. I assume i can dig out the hosts file from my bugless ROM, and replace using root explorer? Thanks for the info!

yes, or you can google for the latest host block file, it is constantly being updated, plus recently i've seen some thread for audiogalaxy.com, they've posted that their site is being blocked by most older hostblock files, and they are a legit site, so if you do use the current bugless file, make sure you edit it before using Root Explorer to mount /system R/W and copying the file into /system/etc/hosts to remove the audiogalaxy entries... :)

was originally going to go that route, but knew there had to be a way without having to add another app
