The trend seems to be to make everything black or smoked glass. What about an all white themed ROM or skin?

I'd love to see it happen. And if it has, please feel free to slap me and then drop a link. :)

I would expect it to be a battery killer, but to each their own.

Why would it be a battery killer?

if it wasnt all completely white then i might dig it for a little bit, but the colors have to flow well together :) as far as it being a battery killer i dont think it would considering that it would just be a different color and wouldnt affect how bright the screen is or anything.

Lighter colors make the light source burn brighter than the darker colors. Therefore more power consumption.

    Ever used Blackle?
    Blackle - Energy Saving Search

It is an all black version of google, said to save electricity.

Because the backlight will have to be on full strength to get a pure white color. Try putting your wallpaper to an all white one and see. I'd almost bet money on it that you'll drain your batter a lot faster especially if you have the phone active all the time.

I'm guessing it has to do with lighting up an entire white background and white apps would kill the battery. Much less power used to do black.

I hear the theory, but I'd have to see real results to believe there was any actual real world difference.

Here is a quote from the Blackle website.

"Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. "Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." Roberson et al, 2002"

Here is the link to a 36 page PDF on power consumption of monitors if you really want to geek out
    http://enduse.lbl.gov/Info/LBNL-48581.pdf

I think the energy savings is small, but I imagine it could make a difference when running off battery like on our phones.

I guess I really just want to see the helix launcher made with black dots and then a white nexusmod background with black running lights. :)

LCD backlights do not vary intensity to display onscreen images, thus no difference between a darker or lighter theme. Each pixel has 3 subpixels (R,G,B) which filter the amount of light emitted from the backlight. Turning down the brightness of your screen manually DOES save battery, however, since it's decreasing the backlight brightness.

I wonder if a white/light background would be more beneficial during the day? At night it would definitely be an eye strain. Will have to test it tomorrow during the day.

Unless you have one of those monitors/TVs that change the brightness per region of the screen, it has no effect. For LCD's at least, dont know about CRT''s
