home soft key and screen above it not responsive after 2.2

I just updated to the 2.2 and after that my home soft key will not respond to a touch. It also seems that all of the screen above it no longer senses any touch. if i try to hit any of those icons it will just click the icons to the left or the right of it. Any ideas if the upgrade caused this or if its a hardware failure? It all worked fine prior to the update!!! Very frustrating
