    Hi all,

Wondering if someone could help me with a high data usage issue I recently noticed. It seems I'm getting around 80 meg down worth of data usage at random times. I've just noticed the problem, so I'm trying to get a handle on what is causing this.

I happened to catch it during a period while it was downloading heavily. I noticed the news and weather genie kept showing up in my task killer after repeated attempts to kill it. I also noticed the download service going in running services. Anybody run into something similar to this?

I have renamed the news and weather genie apk to bak to take it out of the mix for now. I'm not sure if it is something with the market, or some other type of pull going on. I'm running BB V0.3 by the way in case that matters.

    Thanks!

Better help you if we knew which apps were on your droid. Uninstall one at a time until you figure it out. Maybe therer an app that can track which apps use data.

I've noticed that I can reboot the phone and it will go into the downloading mode each time I do. I always see "DownloadService" in the running applications list while this is happening.

Is that tied into the Market Updates or is that something like an OTA update?

make sure your phones not downloading the O.T.A in the background since your running an older version. other than that you could look and see whats using your battery the most as if its pulling that kinda data it would be a high user. good luck

I'm currently running Bugless Beast V0.3. When you say it sounds like a ota update, would that be the Verizon ota or a newer Bugless Beast version trying to update?

I had a similar issue a while back, except my phone was downloading about 850 MB a day. Called Verizon and they couldn't help. One day during that particular month, I was headed out of state so I decided to update my tower info (*228). Once I did this, the mysterious downloading stopped. I wound up downloading about 17 GB that month because of this.

PHEW! Thank goodness I'm not the only one experiencing this issue!!

I'm still unaware of what is causing this problem. My droid downloads approximately 250mb/day. I had SimplyStunning v4.7 when this started happening (although it happened out of nowhere) and then wiped, reinstalled and blah blah. Nothing worked. I wiped, installed BB v0.5 and its still not working! I'm still downloading huge amounts of data.

The strange thing is that when I catch the phone during those random downloading moments, I look at my internal and external space and it remains unchanged?? Even though I can clearly see through 3G Watchdog that my data usage is going up, the space on my phone remains the same...what the heck is being transferred and where the heck is it going??

I've checked which apps are using lots of battery with performance monitoring and didn't find anything. Also tried battery manager and nothing suspicious. I don't have any particular out of the ordinary apps on my Droid. Mostly top apps from the market, paid and free.

Will try *228 and post results.
