I'm having problems with the screen going blank at the start of a call. I can't cancel the call if I need to immediately. Any suggestions?

There's a proximity sensor on your phone, so if your phone detects your face or your thumb over it, the screen goes off.

Welcome to the droidforums, PianoDoc.

The droid has a sensor on the face of it that detects when your holding the phone next to your face. When this detection is made the screen will go blank to keep you from accidentally pushing any buttons with your cheek while in call. i.e. hangup. To make this go away just pull the phone away from you face and give the sensor a second to register the change. This will bring up the in-call options.
