If you accept the fact you will lose your data but want the phone working, I would install the ROM again using "allow update.zip" then "install update.zip"

If you want to try just clearing cache so you don't lose data try that first.

Did you have clockwork flashed through ROM Manager?
If so you will need to rename the ROM on your sdcard "update.zip"

basically, the new recovery system is up. all i've done is this:

FIRST. I clicked: wipe data/factory reset
SECOND. I clicked: Wipe cache partition
THIRD. I clicked: allow update.zip installation
FOURTH. I clicked: install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)

It gave me this message:
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...

MotoCache1 Complete Root v1.1

Preparing for installs...
Mounting SYSTEM...
Extracting script(s)...

Disabling Flash Recovery Service (if found)...

Installing Superuser 2.3.2.3 - Eclair/Froyo

Installing Busybox v1.16.0...

Wrapping up...
Unmounting SYSTEM...

Done. MotoCache1 says enjoy root!

Install from sdcard complete.

What do i need to do next? Should i try rebooting?

That's not a ROM. That's just root.

You need to flash a ROM.

Ugh. What was your battery level last you knew?

Could be a low battery.

You can go to that link I gave you and use the rom from there. It will be a stock rooted rom. Just follow the installation instructions from that thread. Let your phone charge first.

This may be easier: Custom Roms - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum. I suggest Bugless, ChevyNo1, Project Elite or Liquid.

Theres also CyanogenMod: CyanogenMod Mirror Network - Powered by TDRevolution. Use the 7.0.2 and make sure you rename it to update.zip. Not update.zip.zip
If you go that route, then you'll need the gapps (google apps): Latest Version/Google Apps - CyanogenMod Wiki. Use the 20110307 version.
Heres more instructions on Cyanogen. Scroll down to the bottom until you see the Flashing CyanogenMod and follow the Second Method (via Recovery). Ignore the Clockwork recovery part because your using SP Recovery: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Motorola_Droid:_Full_Update_Guide

I copied the SP install instructions from Motocache1's thread:

Do a full wipe first. Then,

In the SPRecovery menu, use the volume up/down keys to highlight "install" and use the camera button to choose it.

Now highlight "Allow update.zip Installation" and choose it. [It will appear to do nothing -- that's normal. If you're unsure if you clicked it or not, choose it twice, it won't hurt.]

Finally, highlight "Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)" and choose it.

Then reboot.
