Help with root

I am using the 9 step adb root method. I get to stow 4 "adb reboot bootloader" to flash downgrade zip. I get an error message that says can not recognize file type or something to that effect. I renamed it PG05IMG.zip. I rooted my first thunderbolt no problem but had to exchange. Now cant get the new TB to flash the downgrade ruu. Any suggestions. Also adb is set up properly but then it also shows my HTC phone under storage devices with a ! Beside it. But adb is working.

I would just make sure the file id named correct, not corrupted and if using windows7 you have view extension turned on so its not named .zip.zip. Also make sure its in the root of the sdcard.
