Hi, I was helping someone could point me in the right direction to do this - I've never done this before and searching Google since last night, I've not come up with much at all.

I have a settings.apk file from a theme that I want to integrate with my current ROM. I have tried using root explorer to copy / paste the new settings.apk to overwrite the default one but all I receive is errors.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

Using root explorer try changing the old file to .bak before pasting the new one in then click to install it. This typically works for me. If not, shoot me a PM with your email and I'll send you the dummy .zip to drop your apk into to flash it in recovery.

    No go :(

I pressed "OK" when it said "This is a system application. Do you still want to replace it? All prevoious user data will be saved."

Then at the applications permissions page I pressed "OK"

Only to get the message "Application not installed."

    Sent ya a PM

Replacing the settings.apk from your current ROM with a settings.apk from another can have negative effects on your system if the themed settings.apk was not made specifically for the ROM you are using - I would not suggest it

Unzip the settings apk from the rom you wanted and take the images from it and change them out with your current settings apk images and make sure its still in apk form. (7zip is a good program to use)

Once its done, you can push you settings apk with ADB.

    cd\
cd AndroidSDK\tools (wherever your directory is, yours could be different)
    adb devices
    adb remount
    adb push Settings.apk /system/app
    adb reboot

-Let it reboot and hopefully it will work!

If you are unable to do this, PM me with the files and I can try and help.

    Good luck!
Let me know if you have questions

Credit goes to Teddyearp. He passed the .zip dummy file on to me and showed me how to use it a while back for a camera replacement. Glad I could help by passing on the file and how to!
