HOWTO Make QCP Ringtones:

First off:
If you follow this tutorial STEP by STEP, you WILL be able to make ringers, just be patient and if you dont succeed, what was it....try try again. :wink:
This tutorial is for Sprint PCS cutomers only!
DO NOT go on to the next step, UNTIL you have figured out the one you are on!
There are many other ways to convert, slice, and change your file with other programs. This is just *one* method for making them yourself.

:arrow: Programs You Will Need:
Go to Winamp Media Player - MP3, [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important][COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]Multimedia[/COLOR][/COLOR], and Music Player and install the latest version of Winamp if you do not already have it.
You will also need the Qualcomm Pure Voice Converter (pvConverter) which can be found here (there was a link here
-Extract all of the contents of the .zip file to a new folder on your [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important][COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]desktop[/COLOR][/COLOR]. There will be 3 files, look for the .exe file, that is the converter. (Don't do anything with it right now, it comes later.)
You'll also want the Pure Voice Player, which can be found here, (there was a link here
Now the first step in making a QCP is opening the mp3 file you want to use and making it small enough for
your phone to [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important][COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]download[/COLOR][/COLOR], (this is usually around 30 seconds, although some phones can handle a little bit more).
You have two options on how to make the file smaller:
- Use a Program with a WAVE editor, like [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important][COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]Nero[/COLOR][/COLOR] (Nero – leading [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important][COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]digital [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]media [/COLOR][COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]solutions[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR] for consumers and professionals - Official website[/url]) or Cool Edit Pro(now Adobe Audition, Adobe)
or
- Use the [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important][COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]Windows[/COLOR][/COLOR] 'Sound Recorder' (Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment)
I suggest using a program like nero, then the [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important][COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]sound [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]recorder[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR]
for volume
You will need to open the 'WAVE Editor/Edit Audio' program in Nero (with Adobe Audition it should just come up)
-Go to 'File > Open...' and open the mp3 file you want to make a ringtone. It will create a Peak File, (lot's of up/down lines). From here you can find the exact part of the song you want to use (which again shouldn't be much more than 30 seconds).
-Click/and drag on the beginning point you want till the ending point, the peak file will turn blue, like this:
-Now you can press play on the selected item to make sure its the part you want.
-Now go to 'Edit' and 'Crop' the selected part.
-Finally go to, 'File' and 'Save As...'. Name the file and save it to your desktop.
Now you have to adjust the volume so it will sound right on your phone, open sound recorder (see above for instructions)
-Click 'File > Open...' then open the WAV file that you just made with the wave editor. You should be able to push play and hear the file you have cropped down. Here is where the practice comes in... You will want to use the 'Increase Volume' and *sometimes* the 'Add Echo' Features which can be found under the 'Effects' tab.
-Once you have the file loud enough to where it doesn't distort, go to 'File' and 'Save' (you should be saving to your desktop).

-Open [COLOR=#CC9933 ! important][COLOR=#CC9933 ! important]Winamp[/COLOR][/COLOR]...click 'Options > Preferences' (a box will appear) Find and click 'Output'...look for 'nullsoft disk writer', click that and then click 'Configure'.
Settings will need to be 8.000khz 16 bit Mono.
Look below for what the screen should look like. (make sure to have the 'Convert to format' box checked).
-Change your 'Output Directory' to your desktop.
-Close the Configure box, and make sure the 'nullsoft disk writer' output is highlighted, close that window.
-Winamp is now setup to output the right type of file for the pvConverter to be able to recognize to make the QCP. Find the current file you are making, and double click it so it plays through Winamp (you wont actually hear anything,if you have it setup correctly) this will put out a new file onto your desktop which should look like - 001_'file name'

Windows Sound Recorder:

I personally suggest NOT using sound recorder to crop your file, but if you don't have a program this is your alternative
First you have to take the mp3 file that you want to make a ringtone, and run it through Winamp under the correct settings. (See above for instructions)
-Once you have the file that Winamp has produced, Open Sound Recorder and go to 'File > Open...' Open the file.
-You will now need to crop the file down to no more than 30 seconds, to do this, put the cursor at the point where you would like the ringtone to start. Now click 'Edit' and use the 'Delete BEFORE Current Position' feature
(if you are trying to get the intro of the song, you obviously won't use the feature, go to the next step).
-Now move the cursor to where you want the ringtone to end, (once again, it shouldn't be more than 30 seconds) Click 'Edit' and use the 'Delete AFTER current position' feature. Here is an example:
-You should now have selected the part of the song you want as a ringtone.
Now you have to adjust the volume so it will sound right on your phone, open sound recorder (see above for instructions)
-Click 'File > Open...' then open the WAV file that you have just made. You should be able to push play and hear the file you have cropped down. Here is where the practive comes in. You will want to use the 'Increase Volume'

Now that you have your file cropped down, ran it through winamp under the correct settings, and ran through sound recorder to increase volume all you have to do is Open the folder where you have the pvConverter, take the file from the desktop (or wherever you have it located) and drag it over the pvConverter like this:
A black DOS box will come up, DO NOT close it, it will close itself. This will also put out your new QCP file (it should be located on your desktop).
Now upload the file to your personal files on 3G, and you're done! Easy enough?
