6 week problem.
Droid X, up to date, Gingerbread, not rooted.

My phone decides at some point in the day to have the following problems.
-wont open camera/camcorder
-wont playback music
-wont playback video

For the first two weeks, I would unmount the SD card and everything would work again. This solution stopped working.

3 days ago I factory reset my phone, the problem came back today.

The only fix has been to reboot the phone, then everything works for about a day if lucky and then stops working again.

Ive posted this problem on several threads, no one person has replied, let alone helped.

Please assist.

Did this issue start happening after the last update? I would recommend one of two things:

1. Sbf- this will reflash the firmware on the device and make it new out of the box. Any software issues should be cleared with this.

2. Root it and flash a custom rom, which are more stable than stock OS.

In addition to what DX said...I visited with HarleyDude from the DroidXForums.com and he suggested the following...

If you are up to date, you are on version 4.6.621...and not sure of your timeline, but it sounds like your problems may have started with that update. He has seen others who have complained about the update and with you not being rooted, your options are pretty limited. The factory reset is probably the most you can do and since that didn't fix it - it is hard to suggest anything else again since you are stock. You could try to take it into VZW and get their opinion / feedback and possibly see about a replacement since the issues could be update related.

Good luck and keep us posted...

I followed Goose's instructions.
I did the SBF for Milestone X, I am rooted and I updated the kernels to .621.

Its been about a week and the problems have not returned.

Thank you all, especially Goose for breaking it down for me.

Approximately how many pictures, videos and music did you have on your phone when you had the problem?

Not much actually.
80 pics
6 videos
less than 20 songs.

But the audio/video playback wouldn't work at all. I use an app to stream Podcasts and that wasn't working, niether was Pandora or the youtube app.

Although the youtube desktop site worked until I did a simple factory reset, then I could no longer hear anything...that also escalated into audio problems in phone calls which hadn't been an issue.

Regardless, the step by step from Goose really saved me. my phone works better than ever.
