I have a rooted OG Droid, and am currently back to the stock FroYo build. Last night, I set it to Airplane Mode and went to sleep. Overnight it died, and when I plugged it back in it took quite a while to gain service/3g. A few hours later, service went out again, and the airplane logo comes and goes. I can log on to wifi, but when I try to make calls it says "No mobile network available" or some such malarkey. I've tried installing ChevyNo1's SS 5.4, then reverted back to my stock backup when that didn't work. It currently displays the Airplane Mode symbol, but whenever I try to disable it it just turns grey or the button just freezes. Bear in mind the last time I flashed an SBF I had to go to Verizon store to have it reprogrammed. Thanks in advance!

Your phone might need to be reactivated, try *228.

Pull the battery for about 5 min or so, then try it again.. sometimes the system doesn't completely reset after a reboot for some ungodly reason

I flashed the SBF twice, along with flashing a recovery only SBF. That one got me to where I could reinstall my backup, but nothing besides wifi is working!

Try flashing the just the baseband (radio) found here Peter Alfonso: Download.
If that doesn't work then your phone is shot.

Just flash it in recovery. Then reactivate your phone afterwords. If that doesn't work try clearing, data/cache and reflash your rom of choice and before signing into your Google account, uncheck the backup/restore options in your privacy settings.

    Mine did the same thing.

I had to sbf mine with a few different one's and factory reset my phone to get it to stop doing that.

I tried to flash the radio, but it wouldn't do it. Just said some sort of error and aborted install. Whenever I try factory reset, it reboots and the install boot image shows up, followed shortly by the Triangle of Doom. When I flash a new ROM or SBF, it asks me to log into Google account first and never gives me a chance to activate. Of course, the login fails because I have no service, then I just get the "X" where my bars should be. This is exceptionally frustrating now because I just lost my job, so not only can potential employers not contact me, but I can't afford a new phone right now! Grrr...
thanks for all your help, guys; I haven't given up yet!

Is your phone a milestone by chance? What is your model number? You can find that underneath your battery.

It's an original Droid. Still rooted but back to FroYo. I ended up getting a Samsung Continuum for free via early upgrade, but I don't think I'll ever love it as much as my Droid. The model says "Droid" in my specs, but I'll look in a minute under battery. Right now I'm rocking my first smartphone ever, the Blackberry Pearl. Boy does it blow!
