Just thought I'd top this. A couple days ago my texts erased again. I restored them using SMS backup & restore, and then later that day they were erased again. Tried one more time, and same thing. Something is triggering the erasing.

Mine haven't erased themselves in a looooong time. Not sure what change it was, I've loaded so many different roms and apps that I have no idea what fixed it.

I wouldn't doubt it, that actually makes a bit of sense. My texts were cleared out when I had maybe 200, so it's not because there are too many (I have over 1500 by now and it's fine again).

I use SMS backup, it automatically backs up your texts to your gmail account, usually after you send the text. It stopped working once (got behind by a few days), but has been fine since then.

Good news/Bad news re: lost text msgs

This has been happening to hundreds of people since the phone was released. See Issue 5669 - android - Droid deleting all Messaging/SMS conversation threads at random or triple sending - Project Hosting on Google Code for details of people repeatedly losing all text msgs, posts since Dec 2009.

Bad news: posts since Dec 2009, no reaction from Google or anyone. I guess you're SOL if you lost text msgs.

Good news: folks at that site have been posting bug reports that Google would supposedly use to find and fix the problem. We've done our own homework, looks like the SQLite packaged with the Android operating system has a bug that corrupts your msg database and you lose it all. The good news is (according to the Android developer site), a new version of SQLite will be used in Android 2.2, which might fix the problem (if that's the only problem). Go to the above site, jump to the end and back up to post 424. Download the LostSMS.Txt bug report, open and search for the word corrupt. Be amazed as you read where the Android OS decides the database is corrupt and so must be removed.

Hopefully Android 2.2 will have the new SQLite, and hopefully that's the only bug.

Good Luck all!!! (P.S. so, um, why didn't Google find this, or at least acknowledge they had found it and would release Android 2.2 to fix it???)

Oh, and according to my verizon cell phone, it's June 9, 11:56pm East Coast (Virginia) time. I wonder how many minutes will elapse before Google deletes this (rather than have to admit this has gone on for over 6 months with out any acknowledgement of the problem. Heck, go to a Verizon store, ask them if they have heard of this problem. They will lie their arse off - "Oh no, the Droids don't have any kind of problem with text msgs being deleted." I've asked multiple Verizon employees in multiple stores. They all said the same thing......)

I have had my Droid since Dec. 09 no problems at all, then this a.m. force close and bam! All of them are gone! Looking at all of the problems reported on here it seems like the problem would have been aknowledged and fixed by now. I wasted too much time this a.m. talking to Motorola Android specialist support, turning my phone off, removing battery, etc. like that would do something, then he tells me that there is no way to get them back! Wonder how much they are paid to take up my time to make me do pointless things that he knew all along would not help? Droid commericals run constantly on t.v. if they can afford to advertise a faulty product they should spend more money trying to fix the bugs and less time trying to sell it! Come on Droid designers, this is ridiculous!:icon_evil:

This happened to me before when one of my text messaging threads with a friend hit the text messaging limit but I believe that was fixed in either 2.0.1 or 2.1. I haven't had them deleted from a force close so I don't really know what could cause that.

Happened to me last night, no forced close, no txt limits set, stock messaging. Ugh and Grr and a few other choice words. Also lost locked messages. The point of locking them is...? Um yeah, didn't help save them, ugh.

This same thing happened to me a few weeks back - all texts GONE! Totally sucked, I can't believe that Verizon/Google didn't issue a warning or something. At any rate, I downloaded a 3rd party app to back up my texts to flash every night. Does anyone know if this really saves them safely? Any other suggestions?

I'm curious why people wish to save massive texts? I've never seen the need to keep them, important or not.
