    Yes, another new Droid user.

The Droid is not my first phone and it won't be my last.... Here's a brief history:

    2003: Danger Sidekick
2004: HTC (something) slide out keyboard, touch screen
    2007: Blackberry 8830 World Edition
    2010: Motorola Droid

Initial impressions: Good. Wifi, Google integration, etc.

Problems: Phone seems unnecessarily difficult to use.
    Slide to answer? Ouch!
Unlock every time? Why? Can you turn this off?
    Confirm power off? What??
Press power button to revive screen? Why? Should be a tap.

I need some real short cuts! I like things to be quick and snappy! I have no security issues, so I'm hoping for some apps to kill some of these unnecessary steps. Anybody got some advice?

    Ok..First :welcome: to the forum.

You will get use to the slide to answer. It just takes time.
No, you will have to unlock it each time.
Confirm power off should only happen if you press the power button long.
Now Press power button to revive screen. Let's get you started with a copy of Screebl from the Market. It's free and it will keep your phone from unnecessarily timing out on you. You can also set it to keep the screen on during calls if you like. Make sure you watch the video that comes with it.

Sorry not all the news was positive. But once you get use to it you'll love it. My wife had a Blackberry World and it wasn't half....no it wasn't even a quarter of the phone Droid is.

    Well, that was fast! :)

I'm gonna take the approach that anything can be done on the Droid, especially REMOVING features such as unlock. I assume that if enough people don't like it, somebody will do something about it. Especially if that somebody can make $2.99 a pop doing it.

By the way, I heard that Verizon 4G was going to be out late this year, although as an AirCard, not in a phone. But I assume it won't be too long before we start seeing 4G Smartphones. Oh, won't that be sweet! :icon_ banana:

VZW unofficial timetable for 4G puts the roll-out towards the end of 2011. It's doubtful we'll see any 4G capable phones until at least middle of next year. They plan a starting limited market tests (most likely with AirCards) in select markets this year but no word on which markets (though you can be fairly certain it will only be large $$$ markets).
