I have mixed feelings about the offcentered launcher button....Not sure if I like it that way

Simply place the apk in your apps folder, set permissions, and reboot

Yes, I tried the beta today and I it works well, but I couldn't get accustomed to the off center launcher and ended up going with the Helix2 from the Market. I'm more comfortable with symmetry. :)

What do you do exactly to set permissions and what does this do?

Anyone tried this on UD 9.8?

Why did they have to go and F**K up a very good product by putting the launcher button in the corner than in the middle??? Dumb is what I say!1

do you have terminal or adb access? you will need to run chmod 755 <filename of the apk>. that sets the permissions for it. but the apk must be the a place where it can be used ( /system/app, /data/app, or /sd-ext/app with /data/app being the default primary one you want to use)

otherwise you can use your droid to download the file from that webpage and it'll install it for you through package manager.

or you can use adb and run from the cmd window "adb install <filename of the apk>" which takes the file from your pc and installs it on the droid.

all of the 3 options above will work on any rooted rom.

    Simplified install:
Download ASTRO File Manager from market
    Download the helix apk
Mount your phone by pulling down the notification bar when your phone is plugged into the computer
Drag the helix.apk onto your sdcard
Unmount you phone the same way you mounted it
    Open ASTRO
    Click/Tap the helix.apk
    Open App Manager
Install button in upper left corner

You don't need to be rooted!!!!!

No way I will use it until the launcher icon is in the center. I am SUPER ocd about things being symmetrical. :icon_eek:

After using this on cyanogenmod for the last day or so... it's actually nice on the right side of the screen.... just takes a little getting used too is all.

As long as you don't change back and forth on your screens it's nice.

I like the off center icon. I guess they cannot make everybody happy.

Look at the uproar when Ubuntu talked about moving its minimize/close/maximize buttons to the left side of a window like OSX. People nearly crapped themselves.

Yeah, I've been running it for a few days and am used to it....actually like it now. An option to choose tab placement would be ideal, as would an option to choose between 4 or 5 rows of icons in the tray
