I do not have a Charge, but was wondering how the HDMI to TV Mirroring works. Does it show your phones desktop on a TV for the most part. Can you watch videos through the web browser, outputted to the TV in high def? How much is the HDMI cable for this?

Sweet. I wish my thunderbolt did that. Ah well that's what you get for drinking at 10am on st pats and wanting a 4g phone ;) I'm happy with it and I can just stream video with it but having an hdmi out sure would be nice in a remote location.

Really? I asked this questions to the verizon rep and he said the hdmi port only plays video from the media player, not whatever your phone displays.

have you tried it yet with your phone? Is it rooted? Does root make a difference?

Reps dont know what they are talking about most of the time and this is one of them. I think they are steering you in the wrong direction, it does mirror whatever is on your device.

    hmmm

I know some of the other phones will only play media on your sd card and now live streaming stuff. The only phone that I have seen that can do what you are talking about is, the x with the real hdmi app, and that even that app was kinda flakey

To put this to rest here is evidence directly from Droid Life:

    HDMI mirroring
: The Charge has full HDMI mirroring and it definitely works well. Plug in your device, switch your TV over and BAM! In seconds you are up and running your device on your big ol’ screen TV.

Here is the original review of the phone with this section in it:

I thought I would add to this.

I have a Droid Charge (unrooted) and a HDMI cable. When I plug the HDMI in to the Charge, it produces a dual display that is identical to the phones. Whatever I see on the phone, I see on the TV. I watched an episode of Family Guy through TV Shows Stream and I played a few games of Angy Birds.

Also, when the phone is in portrait mode, it displays as portrait mode centered on the TV; so there are big black edges on either side. When in landscape, the phone fills my TV completely in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

For this reason alone, I love my D-Charge. :D

I just read that it won't stream movies from the Samsung Media Hub (or whatever it's called) b/c of DRM issues. Is this true or is it really, truly, 110% mirroring?

When I bought my charge I received $25 gift card to the samsung media hub...so I bought a couple of movies. I went out to buy an HDMI cable and was excited to watch the movie I had just downloaded and it will not play...so yes it's true you can not watch when hooked up to your TV just on mobile...kinda dumb! I'm sure someone will think of a way around that. Also I like the mirror but when your watching a movie it should give you an option to turn mirror off to conserve battery life

Yes due to contractual limitations that the movie studios made Samsung isn't allowed to let movies be streamed to a TV. I agree with you though its kinda dumb

I get video but no audio when I connect the hdmi cable I got from monoprice. Tried on two different TVs with same results. Don't know if it's the cable or my phone.

yea the media hub limitations suck but movies off the SD card work perfectly. Stock player plays AVI files. Plus, who buys movies anymore? lol Downloading movies is just as easy as downloading songs these days.

hdmi to HDTV works fine, but pixellated picture

just got the droid charge, plugged in hdmi to HDTV, works great. I can watch veetle and youtube videos. HOWEVER, the picture on the HDTV is very pixellated. I can get clear 720p and above just going from laptop to HDTV via HDMI. It's almost as if the great HD picture quality on the Droid Charge is simply enlarged on my HDTV so that you actually see the pixels. It is a 58" HDTV, maybe that's why. But still, my laptop sends a great HD picture to the HDTV.
I thought maybe by using youtube (browser mode), instead of (youtube mode) it would show 720p resolution on my HDTV. But it doesn't achieve 720p (or like it) on my HDTV.
    Anyone have anything?
I can't find where to change the HDMI output resolution on the Samsung Droid Charge. Is it possible to do this?
