HD Dock USB Ports

I just got the Bionic HD dock and can't seem to get a pair of usb speakers to work with the dock. Will usb speakers work or do you need to use the mini plug slot for speakers. Nothing in the documentation or anything I could find.

My guess is your usb speakers need power from the usb ports and I don't believe the ports are set up for that on the usb dock. I am thinking that the only speaker out is the 3.5mm headphone jack in the back of the base.
