What was your last working rom? You may have to download it to your computer and rename it to update.zip and redo it that way. As far as your backup sounds corrupt. What is the file by chance? Did you also backup using titanium or something?

no one knows how to fix this

I have the same problem. Did a nandroid and it said successful but when I go to restore it freezes at "restoring data... 12578012jhg.read" or something/ like that. Please help I know someone out there figured this one out!

Did you rename your back up? And did you make it manually or through ROM manager?

I never make backups using rom manager, too many issues with it, and renaming it causes it not to work from time to time too.

I know with the X you need to mount the system before flashing a backup, not sure about your phone but its worth a shot if you have the option to.

I believe Titanium is only going to back up apps and data, not like a nandroid that backs up everything.

Google backs up your contacts for you. If that's all your worried about losing no need to worry first time your phone sync with your gmail. All contact are saved
