I've been running Froyo with root for about a month now. No custom rom, just stock 2.2, with root.

My Phone has been bugging me every 5 minutes about the OTA update. If I install it will I lose root (I'm assuming so.)?

If I would lose root, how can I make it stop asking me about the OTA?

To be honest I am not sure if you will loose root if you accept the OTA. I have heard that some do. However, I do know that most custom roms block the OTA, so if it is bugging you, you may want to consider flashing a custom ROM just for now and then later you can go back to your stock look. Remember to always make a backup of your phone before flashing any rom. That way if something does not work in the download of the rom you have a backup to go to.

The above thread indicates that if you let it install it will fail because you have a custom rom installed. If it does update you can always use RSD Lite to regain root again.

But do share your findings with us here too!

Back up your apps, in fact make a complete nandroid backup with SPRecovery. Then you can just put it right back on how it is now in 10-15 minutes tops.

But the OP said he did not have a custom rom installed so if he is rooted with the stock 2.2 on it will he loose root if he accepts the 2.2 OTA?? that is why I suggested he flash a custom rom just.

Does Big Johnny have Sprecovery installed for the recovery tool?

If so an Advanced Nandroid backup can be made, just in case everything gets overwritten by taking the update.

The current rom has now been customized, and is no longer the original stock rom, because it is rooted. The recovery tool has also been replaced, depending upon the method of rooting used. Due to this and the above thread I would think the update would fail and the OP would no longer be bothered with update notices. But...we have a backup, just in case.

If you lose root you can use SPRecovery to get back what you had.
Or you can use SPRecovery to replace the OTA with a rom of your choice that the update won't effect. If the update is blocked then you also are all set and didn't have to install a custom rom.

Did a complete nandroid backup, and backed up apps.

Launched the update, it started the countdown to 10 and rebooted.
SPRecovery then came up and announced that it had blocked the update.zip

Rebooted, and nothing is changed and the constant notifications are gone.

In short, SPRecovery stops the update, and the notifications go away.

I just want to point out for those who are rooted and are not running a custom rom you can get a signed copy of the FRG01B update in the news section on page 6 of the Froyo Circus Thread. This is not a custom ROM, it's the exact same thing that's going out OTA but it does not remove your root. If this is installed you will not get a notification. Look at Jrummys post on that page.
