There's an app in the Play Store called Contacts+. I don't use it but have thought about switching to it several times. It gets pretty good reviews. Try it out.

I read the privacy policy for Contacts+. Their Privacy Policy terms are a bit ambiguous and it seems that they would like to store too much information. I think I'll pass...
